The old-style candle holder is associated with a traditional Christmas, so it works well as a holiday ice sculpture. The “melted” wax on the candle offers an interesting opportunity for white-on-ice contrast. Rather than sculpting the melted wax, make snow and slush from the large quantities of extra ice that this piece generates, and pack it around the top of the candle so that it looks like the melted wax. Then let it freeze, and do some finishing sculpting on the frozen slush if necessary.
Finally, if you have trouble with the finger loop on the back of the sculpture, you can always carve it separately and then weld it to the main piece. Happy holidays!
