This single block design was originally published in a newsletter sometime around March or April of 1996. Here’s the text from the original design:

“Calla lily”
A Springtime design from Dawson List of Ice Dragon in Albuquerque, NM

Using the large leaves to support the stem and “flower” of the lily, this piece might be suitable for Easter or Mother’s Day. The piece in the center of the flower is carved separately and welded on.

(In 1996, I still lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I didn’t move to New Orleans until 1998.)

The side view of this design is not particularly accurate and should only be used as a guide and not as a template. When you carve this design, you should keep in mind how long the sculpture will be displayed and carve the design thicker if necessary. For a shorter or colder event, the design could be carved as drawn. Caution, experience, and skill are required for a delicate version of this design. Somewhere I have a photo of a calla lily that I carved and I will add it to this entry when I find it.
