iPhone/iPad ice sculpture game released

Sooner or later, had to happen: somebody was going to make up an ice sculpture destruction game. Called “Amazing Breaker,” it’s out now and it’s pretty addictive and entertaining too. If you have an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, you can get it for $.99 on the App Store. As far as I can tell, it’s the only ice sculpture-related game out there, at least on the App Store. But there are thousands of apps, so it’s possible there are others. But they’re not likely to be as entertaining as Amazing Breaker.
The game has quality graphics, lots of sound effects, great game play, and eighty levels. The game could be described as something like Angry Birds meets shuffleboard/bowling, with a lot of ice sculpture destruction thrown in. To get past a level, you have to destroy at least 90% of each level’s ice sculpture using the various provided bombs.

The game has a nice icy look with a few odd decorations thrown in. The “sculptures” don’t look all that realistic (most are in color), but they still look good. You probably won’t find many pieces that you’ve carved before; gameplay seems to take precedence in this case. The sound effects are plentiful. Ice sculpture breaking sound effects are rarely done well; most of the time they sound like breaking glass. These aren’t terribly realistic either, but they’re still fun and not annoying. Finally, the bombs are super cool, although you run out of new bomb types after the first few levels. Here’s my two cents: what about a “fracture bomb?” This super-cold thermal-shock bomb wouldn’t wipe out any of the sculpture, but it would do fracture damage to the ice and subsequent bombs would do more damage than normal.

There’s a website for Amazing Breaker and they also have a Facebook page. The parent company, Dekovir, also has a site, but it seems that Amazing Breaker is so new that as of this writing, it’s not on Dekovir’s site.
Considering the other things in life that I’m willing to pay a buck for, this is an easy purchase. It’s a very good game and I’m partial to ice sculptures and creative ways to destroy them. I’ll confess that it’s addictive enough that I’ve already played through most of the provided levels, if that tells you anything. Like Angry Birds, it looks like the company plans on adding new levels in upgrades. The game play is fun enough though, that I’ll bet that when I’m looking to pass some time, I’ll be happy to revisit levels I’ve already conquered.
